Black Friday

Black Friday is a word that should and does sound like an evil holiday, if the words were not associated with shopping deals and insane hordes of trudging zombie consumers we would probably associate it with a day like Halloween or some Satanic event.  But alas Black Friday is neither of those things.  Black Friday is the day where many businesses get their accounting ledgers out of the red (negative profits) to the black (positive profits).  It is a holiday for any business looking to recoup losses or just increase their profits for the year.

But for so many in this nation Black Friday has become a day with more meaning than family, friends and the “Reason for The Season” if you want to take a page out of the holiday book.  It has come to be known as the day where items can be purchased dirt cheap thus creating a feeding frenzy of shoppers trying to get the best deals on everything from Christmas presents to items for themselves.  Why? We have to ask is this day so important?  I think it is because society as a whole have begun to associate material things with happiness like an addict does with a drug.  Black Friday is the ultimate day for those addicted to get a greater fix.  The pushing, fighting, yelling and general anarchy of that day increases the high.  The drive to get in there first, the drive to win.  The most basic of human motivation. Competition.  But this is only one of the types of people that go to these events.  The others are the more down to earth, people who are just looking to attempt to get something they have long desired at a price they can afford.  Others are there out of desperation to get their kids good Christmas presents on the only day they can afford them.

Black Friday is a terrible idea invented by corporatism to incite shopping hysteria, they feed on the raw animal power of the hordes.  A person trampled under the hooves of the herd is a win for them. To see that people are so desperate for your product they are willing to throw common decency and human civility out the window and descend to the purest basics of the reptilian part of the brain.  How can we call ourselves a civil society if we are so easily manipulated by shiny things?  They are the masters throwing their scraps on the floor, for us the dogs, to fight over.

We can no longer accept this as a reality, it is time for us to realize who is pulling the strings.  We are Man, we are Woman.  We are not animals, we are not beasts to prey on each other. This society should endeavor to move beyond this type of madness and greed.  We are being manipulated for the profit and greed of an elite class.  They will rule us as long as we continue to allow them power over us.  We must stand up, we must evolve beyond these animal tendencies they are preying on us with.

I call out to all people, all humans.  We are not animals, we are Human.  We evolve to better ourselves.  Let us not take a step back on Black Friday but a step forward and refuse to be toyed with.  I know one day we will look back on this madness that is Black Friday as a stain on human history, but when will this be, next year?  Next century? It is up to us.
